Gardening AustraliaOur Port Melbourne Pop-up farm project at The Sustainable Coffee Company was highlighted in Series 30, Episode 32 of Gardening Australia. The urban farm installed by TSLC in vacant carparking spaces after staff started cycling to work. This allows for the coffee roastery to compost the organic waste produced in the coffee process, harnessing it as a resource for transforming the warehouse space into an urban oasis, and to produce fresh healthy vegies for staff. Presenter Paul West chatted with the gang and showed them how to make wood-fired pizzas with the fresh produce and herbs from the garden.

Future of urban farmingIn this short video, TSLC Director, Brendan Condon, introduces some of the urban farms we have worked on. Highlighting the benefits of growing food in urban spaces, he and the team harvest fresh produce to donate to local food charities such as Ozharvest. These projects conceptualise cities as productive arenas for creating and circulating resources. The features of the Biofilta Foodcube wicking beds are highlighted as a unique strategy for harnessing this waste, such as the 80% waste-stream plastic that is used to construct the beds, to produce multiple benefits for cities and their inhabitants.

melbourne convention centreThis massive courtyard in the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre sat vacant for a while before the idea formed to fill it with a productive and accessible urban farm. Edible herbs and shrubs, as well as citrus trees are complemented by inviting seating arrangements. This landscape works to activate the space, and has been enjoyed by staff and visitors to the MCEC.
